Michael Sixtus is currently the Program Coordinator and Principal
Science Teacher for the Mar Vista High School Marine Science
Program, a State of California Specialized Secondary Program.
He received his M.S. from San Diego State University in Marine
Physiological Ecology in 1978 and his B. S. in Biology, with
minors in Chemistry and Spanish, from the University of Santa
Clara in 1973. Since beginning teaching in 1985 he has taught
Life Science, Physical Science, Molecular Science, Biology, ChemCom,
and Honors Chemistry. He has developed four new courses in the
Sweetwater Union High School District, and currently is the High
School Science representative on the district Curriculum Cabinet.
Michael has received numerous awards, including the Partner
of the Year from the San Diego Science Alliance and the High
School Chemistry Teacher of the Year from the San Diego chapter
of the American Chemical Society, and fellowships, including
a GTE GIFT Fellowship and a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship in Chemistry.
He received an Industry Fellowship from General Atomics in 1996,
and has served on the development team for the "Energy from the
Atom" module for several years. |
